How it works
Counting from mating
Dog pregnancy lasts about 58 to 68 days from mating, about nine weeks, with an average near 63 days. The calculator adds the average to the mating date to estimate the due date, and the 58 to 68 day range gives the earliest and latest you should expect puppies.
Larger litters are sometimes delivered a day or two earlier, and individual dogs vary. Treat the due date as a window of a few days rather than a single fixed day.

How long are dogs pregnant?
Dog pregnancy runs about 58 to 68 days from mating, averaging around 63, or about nine weeks. Counting from the mating date gives the most reliable estimate of when puppies are due.
Larger litters are sometimes delivered a day or two earlier, and individual dogs vary.
Stages of pregnancy
There are few outward signs in the first three weeks. Some dogs show enlarged, pinker nipples and a clearer change in appetite by weeks four to five, and the abdomen visibly swells in the final third.
A vet can confirm pregnancy with ultrasound from around 25 days, or by palpation and X-ray a little later, which also estimates litter size.
Preparing for the birth
Set up a clean, quiet whelping box in a private spot a week or two before the due date, and keep feeding a good-quality diet, increasing food in late pregnancy. Most dogs whelp without help.
A drop in body temperature and restlessness in the final day often signal that labour is near.
When to call the vet
Call a vet if the pregnancy passes about 68 to 70 days, if she strains hard for more than 20 to 30 minutes without producing a puppy, or if you see dark green discharge before the first pup. This tool is for planning only and does not replace veterinary care.
